Hatsune Festival (Matsuyama Yu Shrine)
A festival to pray for bountiful harvest, flourishing businesses, and safety and well-being of families. Based on a legendary story about a Shintō god Ōkuninushi who was once saved by a mouse, the first festival is said to have been held on the first day of the rat in November of the Chinese calendar. During the festival, many events and offerings are made available, including engi mamemaki (good luck bean throwing), dondo-yaki (bonfire event, also called shimpu shōjō-sai), raffle drawing, ashi-yu (foot baths), mochi making, shishimai (lion dance), and suigun (Japanese navy) drum performances.
