Ōzu Castle

This flatland-mountain castle beside the Hijikawa River is said to have been founded in the closing years of the Kamakura period. The current four-storey castle tower was destroyed in the Meiji period, but it was recreated in its original form in 2004 with donations from the public. It was recreated using old photographs from the Meiji period and a wooden model of the castle tower from the Edo period. The four watchtowers from the Edo period are designated important national cultural properties.
