Iyo Kasuri Fabric
Index
‘Iyo’ is the old name for Ehime Prefecture, and ‘kasuri’ is a type of textile. There are three main types of kasuri in Japan, of which Iyo Kasuri is one. It features a plain indigo base with simple, rustic patterns. It was used as the material for daily clothing up to the 1960s. Today, it’s typically used for sundries and interior decoration, and it’s popular as a souvenir. In Matsuyama there’s a facility called Mingei Iyo Kasuri Kaikan where you can observe weaving and try your hand at indigo dyeing. You can also buy Iyo Kasuri products.
